Welcome back readers. Today, in this article we’re going to write about difference between the Deep Web and the Darknet. If someone mentions the Darknet, most peoples' minds immediately spring to a place full of gore, red rooms, hitmen-for-hire, UFOs, conspiracies, secret files, levels of Darknet, Mariana's Web and darkness. If you’re a Darknet curious traveler, perhaps you’ve seen a picture, promoting false knowledge, with the iceberg showing the different “levels” of the Darknet. Sure, there are some things bit illegal than the others(like drug shops and markets) there aren't any "levels". Mariana's Web, red rooms, hitmen, Illuminati society, all that stuff you find on "level 5" or whatever rumours are being spread, are purely fictional and scammers like to capitalize on these.
The Deep web is the name for everything not indexed by search engines like Google or Bing. The Darknet is all the onion addresses, things that requires special tools like the Tor Browser to access. The Darknet is basically a type of "anonymous Internet" which can be accessed through I2P, Freenet, Tor.
The Tor Browser offers anonymity, anonymity attracts everyone. Anonymity is a useful tool to idealists, despots, and tyrants alike but it’s mainly to enjoy the free flow of information that places and networks like Tor, i2p, freenet provides for us. Although, it’s also a motivating factor for criminals, who don't want to get caught, and they make up the Darknet and the Darknet Markets. People have this narrow view that Tor is the gateway to illegal activity. Although the anonymity factor does attract criminals, it is, at its core, just something for anonymity. Tor browser is more used by businesses corporations and government agencies compared to darknet criminals. Tor is a tool even helping victims of domestic violence and the social workers and civil societies that assist them. Tor is also used by news organizations such as Guardian, The New Yorker, and even protecting privacy of whistleblowers.
